The need for hand surgery can arise from a variety of problems including arthritis, carpal tunnel syndrome, cubital tunnel release, de quervain’s and dupuytren’s. Carpal tunnel release is usually performed using alocal anaestheticso that you feel nothing and a light sedation so you remain relaxed. They will then cut the flexor retinaculum - the ligament that forms the top of the carpal tunnel - relieving the pressure on the median nerve.
