A Specialist Plastic Surgeon is a Commonwealth Government accredited plastic surgeon who is trained and qualified to perform reconstructive and cosmetic surgery. The title of Specialist Plastic Surgeon can only be used by RACS-approved specialist surgeons in the recognised specialty of plastic surgery. Dr Ellis Choy graduated from the University of Sydney in 1997 and then completed postgraduate studies in general surgery at the Royal Prince Alfred Hospital in Sydney. He gained his first fellowship with the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) in 2004. That same year he completed subspecialty training by attaining fellowships in both breast surgery (at the Sydney Breast Cancer Institute) and surgical oncology at the Sydney Melanoma Unit, now Melanoma Institute Australia.

After completing his Plastic Surgery training in Sydney with a predominant focus in Breast Reconstructive Surgery, Dr Choy obtained his second FRACS in Plastic Surgery in 2010. That same year, he also attained further subspecialty fellowship experience in both reconstructive & cosmetic surgery in the breast & the face. He completed the Plastic Surgery fellowship at the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Adelaide with a focus on both reconstructive & cosmetic breast plastic surgery & related body contouring works.
